1.19.15 Untouchable

"Oh look, what is this?" He reached out and pulled on the glowing floating red thread. It bended to his grasp as if it was made out of cotton. Even I couldn't do that yet.
"Let go of that right now." I hissed at him through clenched teeth. 
"Why?" He shrugged as he played with the thread. "Whoever this belongs to is about to die anyways right? Why don't I do it for you?" He tighten his grasp and I tensed.
"That is not your place-"
"Not my place? Then whom is it? Is it your place? Your place to determine who lives and die?"

 

Random middle of the night post. uvu

At least it is middle of the night for me anyways. I been trying to post in times in which people would actually see my stuff...but I'm slowly realizing that I really don't care about that stuff that much anymore. At least, it shouldn't be my drive to draw anyways. uvu

Anyways, I been working on a few pieces all over the map lately and this is one of them. And this one is more ideas to the Death's Apprentice idea. XD This Death Apprentice jar is gonna be full of so much ideas I wouldn't know what to do with it all.

As stated before, the only thing an apprentice does is just cut the thread that attaches one's soul to one's body when they die. White for 'still good', red for 'needs to go'. These threads are semi-visible to apprentices when they come down to the living world. Like most things, their clarity depends on skill and practice. 

However these threads are also clearly visible for certain living humans who have a high spiritual awareness. 

You see, an apprentice is someone who is between the world of the living and the dead, stuck in the cracks in-between. They do have a physical presence in the living world but the living have a hard time seeing them. Apprentices can walk down crowded subways with a 7 ft scythe and you would be able to SEE that. But it won't alarm you or alert you in anyway because an apprentice has no soul, not anymore anyways. Unconsciously, you would register this strange sight in your mind in the same place you would register a building support beam or a telephone pole and then, dismiss it just as easily. Unless an apprentice starts screaming or purposefully knocking over people or someone calls them out, most of them get by unnoticed.

Unfortunately, this system is not foolproof.
Because of the endless diversity of humans, there are those born with a certain awareness. Some people have a slight feel for it, they can see apprentice out of the corner of their eyes and sometimes they do a double take but then their minds tell them to calm down. No, no, there is NOT a guy carrying a 7 ft scythe walking towards you, that would be silly. Then there would be some people who can see apprentices fully, recognize and remember them as they would another human being, but not be able to see the threads of the living. There are some that can see the opposite, see the threads but not the apprentice.

And then there are people who can see apprentices, threads and everything. And even more frightening, in extreme cases, they can touch the livings threads, influence them, cut them prematurely. 

Those are far and few in-between but they do exist. Thankfully most of them understand that this is the balance of life and tend to leave apprentices alone. Some are completely unsettled by it and try to ignore it completely. Some try to help the apprentices. But at the same time some do try to prevent apprentices from doing their job.

There is close to nothing an apprentice can do about that besides try to stay one step ahead of their game. That is something you just have to deal with. And no you can't just kill them. That is against the law.
But you know what, murdering people is against the law in most places and that doesn't prevent people from doing it, does it?

These spiritually aware humans would be playable characters I think. uvu I think that would be pretty cool. uvu
